Integration Data Types
Integrations are a key part of Degreed’s business and ecosystem. There are several standard data types that clients, content providers, and other systems integrators can use to integrate with the Degreed platform to contribute to the LXP user experience.
- It is possible to integrate other data types that are not covered in this guide, however, these are the standard data types by which the Degreed UI operates. If a different variety of data is required to integrate, it would need to be mapped to one of these within the Degreed platform.
- The word “metadata” is intentionally used as Degreed does not host the integrated objects, but uses metadata to build our own presentation method within our platform (i.e., Content Card, Skill Card, etc.) which would link out to the original content source using a URL value.
Content
Content items within Degreed are the learning objects with which users interact through Search, Browse, Feed, etc. The metadata related to these learning objects enables and enriches each of the user interactions within Degreed. For all "learning" integrations in the Degreed ecosystem, this is the key type on which the other supporting data types revolve. For more information on supported content types, see Content Integration Concepts.
You can use Content File Template to add multiple content items to your Internal Catalog in bulk. You can tag content items with Skills and assign content to Groups.
Completions
Completion data are the learning records for a user's interactions with Content, signifying that the content has been completed or fulfilled. When completion records are received by a third-party through some type of data integration, those completion records are then additionally marked as a "Verified" completion. Completion records can only be recorded for content objects that already exist within the system, therefore integration of completion data is viewed as complementary to a quality Content "learning" integration. Completion records within Degreed are binary; Degreed does not currently support a concept of "partial" completions or "percent complete".
You can use the Completions Template to upload verified completions for your learners, including the courseID, completion date, content type, and provider.
Required Learning
Required Learning data are the curriculum records for Content items that the user is assigned and required to complete, typically tracked within an LMS or other compliance-oriented system. Required Learning records can only be recorded for content objects that already exist within the system, therefore integration of Required Learning data is viewed as complementary to a quality Content "learning" integration.
You can use the Required Learning Template to assign content to your learners.
Skill Data
Skill metadata serves multiple functions. Most commonly, skill data serves as "tags" for Content objects to facilitate discoverability and recommendation engines within the Degreed platform. Tagging Content objects with Skill "tags" is viewed as complementary to a quality Content "learning" integration.
Additionally, skills data serves as a referential list within a Degreed customer organization which comprises a “Skill Taxonomy,” or group of skills that make up the desired Skill set of an organization.
You can use the Skills Template to add new, or update existing skills.
Opportunities
Opportunities are metadata for openings, stretch assignments, and mentorship roles within an organization (typically associated with ATS integrations).
Users
Users can be provisioned in several ways. The User File template can be used to create, update, or delete multiple users in Degreed. The API also allows you to create, update, and delete users. Degreed also supports Single-Sign-On (SSO) connections as part of our integrated ecosystem. For more information, see Single Sign-On Authentication.
